Meet Camcie Foster
Camice Foster
Camcie Foster was born in raised in North Central Pennsylvania. She began studying classical ballet and ethnic folk dancing as a young child and received a professional position as principal ballerina with Rafael Grigorian Ballet Theatre at the age of 18. She danced with this classical ballet company in New York State for seven years before moving to Colorado to pursue a more eclectic movement style in a contemporary ballet company.
After dancing for four years with Ballet Nouveau Colorado, Camcie has recently retired from the stage – but is still busy directing and teaching for the company and the school of Ballet Nouveau Colorado.
Camcie was actually introduced to the Pilates Method during her very first ballet classes – which mainly consisted of Pilates mat classes, with additional ballet technique added in. With this strong base, Camcie was able to dance for many years – avoiding many over-use injuries that plague most classical dancers. However, the professional dance world is not all that forgiving and Camcie suffered a fractured back, several broken bones, shoulder dislocations, and eventually foot surgery during the course of her career – which led her to re-enter the Pilates world as a professional for rehabilitation and to re-strengthen the affected areas. Since, starting a regular Pilates regime – Camcie has been injury free, and has never felt more strong or healthy than she does now. She hopes to provide all people who wish to remain active and healthy in their chosen endeavors the ability to do so through this wonderful exercise method.
Camcie has earned her B. A. in Russian studies, with an emphasis on translation from the University of Colorado at Boulder. She is currently finishing up her Pilates certification from the Pilates Center Teacher Training Program here in Boulder.
